Early Life

After watching his mother perform on stage when he was seven years old, he started developing an interest in music.  After a few singing lessons, he was in love and captivated with how music touched those around him. Puberty was not an easy stage in life for Jas. For months on end, his voice was continuously changing and he was unable to perform due to loss off voice. Around this time he started finding comfort in writing his own songs.

Career

Throughout his childhood, Jas competed in numerous competitions both locally and away from his home, some of which are: Malta’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest (2008) with the song Id-Dinja Tiegħi, Malta’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest (2010) with the song My Star,

On September 2nd, 2015, Jas had the pleasure to release his debut single Just Be which he co-wrote with Cyprian Cassar at Somnio Studios (former member of Tenishia) and Matthew Mercieca (a.k.a Muxu). Just Be gained various media coverage and helped him set his first steps into the real music world. 2018 was quite an exciting year for Rolyn. On June 11th, he released his fourth single Hadd Ma Jaf from his debut album Journey To FreedomIn July 2018, he also auditioned for the first season of X Factor Malta and managed to make it through the Judges’ auditions to Bootcamp with three yeses alongside 119 other contestants. All that aside, the greatest highlights from two-thousand-eighteen for Jas was performing in the national Gay Pride Concert, which was held in Valletta, the capital city of Malta. This was a dream come true and also a moment of personal validation. On the 14th of April 2019, the official video for Chained (ft. Shyli) and Jas Rolyn’s debut album Journey To Freedom were released.

In 2021, Jas was back with a refined sound and image. Since the release of his debut single in 2015 and his debut album in 2019, he learnt quite a lot about himself and what he wanted to put out in the future. It was at this time that Jas started performing under the name Jas Rolyn instead of his birth name. On May 5th 2021, Jas released his comeback single Bittersweet, which was followed by other musical releases including his EP Promise.
