For some time, I have wanted to write or create a book. After a lot of brainstorming, I finally decided that I wanted to create a number of photo-books that showcase the beauty of my home country – Malta.
“Without a doubt, Valletta was the first location I wanted to showcase.”
Its historical baroque buildings and landmarks are simply breathtaking.
Not everyone sees Valletta’s worth, but those who, fall eternally in love with it. I, for one, am one of those. Every time I visit Valletta, be it for work or just for a stroll, I find it difficult not to appreciate what my ancestors created with their bare hands for all of us to enjoy.
Below, I listed some facts about our gem of a capital city, as well as some photos which are included in the photo-book.

Included in this book, you’ll also find basic information about some of the most important landmarks that can be found in Valletta.
Facts About Valletta
• Valletta (named after its founder Jean Parisot de la Valette) is Malta’s capital city.
• Started in 1566, Valletta was completed, with its impressive bastions, forts, and cathedral, in the astonishingly short time of 15 years. This is remarkable considering the fact that mechanical tools did not exist at the time and the whole city was built entirely by hand.
• Valletta has many titles, all recalling its rich historical past. It is a masterpiece of the Baroque; the “modern” city built by the Knights of St John; a European Art City; Superbissima (meaning ‘Most Proud’).
• Valletta is a World Heritage site and “one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world” as described by UNESCO.
• There are over 25 churches in Valletta!
• St. John’s Co-Cathedral’s interior is home to the Caravaggio masterpiece “The Beheading of Saint John.”
• In 2018, Valletta was named European Capital of Culture.
• Valletta wasn’t always Malta’s capital city.
