I am Jas Rolyn, an androgynous Maltese artist born in Pietá (Malta), on October 14th, 1998.
I was raised by my mother after the tragic loss of my father. A while after, I found myself battling a life-threatening illness and was later on diagnosed with Cancer at the age of three.
At the tender age of seven, I started showing an interest in music and developed a passion for singing, after watching my mother perform on stage in some local singing competitions. Since then, I’ve been competing and performing both locally, and in Italy.
During my teenage years, as my voice started to change and develop, I started struggling with depression and as a result, I dropped out of secondary school and even stopped singing for some time.
At the age of twelve, I started finding comfort in writing my own songs, and later on I also started directing and producing my own music videos.
Later on in life, I continued school and successfully graduated from post-secondary at GEM16+.
At the age of nine, I competed in the final selection of Malta’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest (2008) with the song Id-Dinja Tiegħi.
A few years later, in 2010, I was once again a finalist in Malta’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest. This time I performed my power ballad My Star, with which I placed in the top 10.
On September 2nd, 2015, I had the pleasure to release my debut single Just Be which I co-wrote with Cyprian Cassar at Somnio Studios (former member of Tenishia) and Matthew Mercieca (a.k.a Muxu). Just Be gained various media coverage and helped me set my first steps into the real music world. A year later, after I graduated from post-secondary, I released my second single When Love Comes Around.
In 2017, I got featured on Summer Nights – a track by the Turkish producer known as MobBeatz, and later on in 2018 I signed a vocalist contract with eMorphosys Ukraine, and started recording nursery rhymes for the company.
One of my greatest highlights from two-thousand-eighteen was performing in the national Gay Pride Concert, which was held in Valletta, the capital city of Malta.
2018 was quite an exciting year for me. On June 11th, I released my fourth single Hadd Ma Jaf from my debut album Journey To Freedom.
In July 2018, I auditioned for the first season of X Factor Malta and managed to make it through the Judges’ auditions to Bootcamp with three yeses alongside 119 other contestants.
On the 4th of February 2019, I released my fifth single I Love You So in memory of my best friend who passed away in 2018.
Later on in March, I released One Last Time | A Short Film featuring another track from my first album Journey To Freedom.
On the 14th of April 2019, the official video for Chained (ft. Shyli) and my debut album Journey To Freedom were released.
